I NEED TIRE ADVICE!!!!
Hello,
Alright so i bought my 2007 mustang gt premium this past july. i live in northern illinois so the car has been parked all winter. I bought the car knowing it needed new tires and well when the snow melts ill need to get them asap! I'm only 20 but im well rounded on cars but i know NOTHING about tires. ive had about 3 cars and 2 trucks but nothing that needed high performance or sporty tires. Can someone please help or point me in the right direction? My car is lowered 2 inches and is getting a body kit within the next year or so but i would like to put big fat tires on it but also nothing to ridiculous.
THANKS,
James S.

Tires aren't cheap
Well, how wide are your rims? If stock, you may go to 50's or 55's. I have 7" stock
2012 rims and that's about as wide as I can go. Brand? Kumho's are the best for the
price lately and they stick really well. Here's a shot of my 55's on the rear, they'll go
to the front soon. Then I can get some fifty's for the rear.

The existing wheel size is important for determining what SIZE tires to go with. As far as what TYPE of tire, that also depends on more info. If you'll habitually store your Stang every winter, then you can likely consider summer tires in their various forms. But the compound of most summer-only tires DO get hard below about 50 degrees. I moved south from Lake Zurich in your neck-of-the-woods...
Then, we need to know HOW you drive, if you intend to track, MotorX, etc.....

well right now my wheels are stock but i want to get better ones. And yeah the mustang will be stored EVERY winter. So is it okay to get summer tires? Also this car is not my daily driver and never will be so the driving that will be done is just a weekend car. Something i can take to shows or out on saturday nights but also i want something that handles great on the highway or just by chance if i go to track for a day (which is doubtful)

This link will give you a starting point. It is a take off set from a gt500 that will fit perfectly with about any GT setup and comes in a staggered setup.
Non-staggered setups usually include a 9" rim combined with a couple of popular tire setups, based on visual and performance preferences. They are...
255/45/18's
275/40/18's

alright thanks guys! I dont want to sound like a complete idiot but really i know nothing.but when you both say 255 and 275 and 285 is that the width of the tire. not the depth of the rubber but the width as in across the rubber of the tire.

You got it...of course the right rim width must correspond to the given tire width.
The setup I linked you to are 9.5" rims all around, but have wider tires on the rear (285).
first question you need to answer is...do I want to stagger my tire sizes?
