First Mustang ...NEW or Used?
I figure i should start by saying this is my first post. i've read a bunch. i really dont know much about cars but over the past few months i've fallin completely in love with the mustang. i currently have a 2008 jeep patriot that i bought new in 2008 and paid off im going to keep for moving things, now i want something that i love to drive and look at everyday.
My situation..
im 22, going back to college next fall. i've saved up about 20k and have decided im getting a mustang. at this point its inevitable. i plan to make the purchase between april and july.
my question.
should i buy a used 2012 mustang v6 premium or is it worth buying a new 2013 or 14 model? I know for a fact that i want the premium because of the additional options. it saves me time and money of trying to get those things installed later when im perfecting it to my liking. i plan on keeping this car at least 3 years. the only reason i can see selling it is to get a newer model mustang in the future. and i've decided only to get v6 because it falls more into my budget as far as sticker price, insurance, gas, etc(at least for my first mustang). also, if i buy used, are there any sure signs that i can use to point out a base v6 from a premium v6 while looking online?

Why not buy a 2005-10 gt with the 4.6?? You will get tired of the v6 power very quickly. And the best time to buy from a dealer is when the model years rollover and they have leftover cars that they are trying to get out of their lot.

If the 5.0 is out of your budget, I'd do what Elenor suggested and look for a 3v GT.
They can be had for under 17k all day, so you have a few k you can put back in the bank.
Also, because it'll be so much older, the insurance will probably be cheaper!

Are you absolute on a 2012-13 model? If so, wait until Dec. when dealers are pushing out their left over models. Personally, I like the 2013s over the '10-'12s.....I think Ford got it right with the tail lights. However, you can pick up a nice '05-'09 at a great price if you do some shopping. If you do go that route, check back here and we all can give you some "heads up" on any issues that could be lurking.

We call it the bank because we've usually got more money in our cars than our bank accounts.
Yeah, I'm in a similar position as you. Definitely get the GT. Some work and you can end up with a pretty sweet looking ride without breaking the bank.
My car may be "old" (2006) but it still turns heads.

If you have to go with the newer model forgo the '11's and '12's. The tail end still makes me weep. They got it right with the '13's and '14's!
My 05 was my wife's till she moved on to a 07GT/CS later. She sold that for a focus due to kids and I still got the 05 with now a 07 Grand Marquis daily. The "old" 4.6 might not have the power of the 5.0, but it's still plenty fast. And you get the soundtrack, so even if those 3.7 v6's could overtake you in the 1/4 mile, you can still say their car sounds like ****, and there isn't a thing in the world they can do about that.
Driving my 05 became a treat now that I drive a boat daily. And since it is now my second car the gates have opened for mods. Nothing will happen till 2015, as this year I welcome a baby boy, and next year we want to move to another house. After everything settles down it's time to put the power to her.
