does stock exhaust sound change?
I not a tech guy but had my resonators taken out. Car sounds like an animal with no resonators and my Roush axle backs. I saw them weld in I believe a 3 inch straight pipe where the resonators use to be.
To remove the resonator, go to a dependable exhaust shop....they will cut them out and install/weld in a section of pipe matching the rest of the system. They will require around $60 - $100 for you to take the car with you. Adds a bit more rumble with a lower tone, more pop when downshifting, and overall better sound.

The 5.0 seems to gain about 20 or so RWHP as it gets some mileage on it, apparent from a few that have dynoed stock with few miles on the car and then re-baselined about 10k-20k miles later. And, yes, the tone of most exhaust systems will deepen with age, some more than others.
