Lisle tool works fine. Here's a youtube of me using it...

I had 94k on the clock... I only cracked them 1/8th turn and used PB Plaster, ATF, Acetone and carb cleaner to soak them.. every one where the goo got on the carbon came right out.. three weren't cracked enough for the goo to get in.. and two of those broke..

One more hint. Do NOT get the anti-sieze on the "business end" of the plugs. It will short them out and give you an instant miss.

wow I didn't realize that plugs were that much work. I mean I knew they be difficult and you had to be careful not to break them. but damn that a lot of time and work to change plugs especially if you break any off in there and have to use the lisle tool

this. I had no idea they were so bad to change on the 4.6's. Question - what makes this process so difficult? Bad design by Ford, bad plugs?

Two factors.
1. Stupid head design by Ford

2. Bad design, two piece plug.
