Default "Check Fuel Cap"...

I'm at work guys and my wife text me that her '06 V6 Pony chimed and she had "Check Fuel Cap" message twice today. Could that be the gasket on the gas cap? Any help so I don't have to make an extra trip to an auto parts store AFTER I get home from work would be appreciated.

I've heard of that gasket/sensor giving other members faulty signals before. They replaced the cap and said the light went away (or they cleared it with their tuner afterward and it never came back).

Others said they just cleared it with their tuner/scanner and it was just a "fluke" code and never came back, so I would first try to clear it and see if it's just a false alarm, then if it persists replace the cap.

Maybe Mrs. Nuke could remove the cap and use a paper towel to make sure the underside of the cap and filler pipe threads are clean. She could also do a visual inspection to see if something looks amiss. Also, be sure she knows that if the check fuel cap warning light stays on for a while, the CEL will probably also illuminate--not to panic.

No panic; I just wanted to be sure that my intent to check the seal and perhaps lightly lubricate the gasket with a good o-ring lube when I get home is all that's prescribed as the first attempt. She did say that she removed and replaced the cap both times but I wouldn't expect her to be fooling with the seal on her way back to her office.

Most likely the gas cap seal is bad or dried or cracked. The light will show on a code scanner as a very small evap emission leak, people come in all the time to my work (advance auto) and they have no idea why their car has a CEL on and they say it runs fine and I run the scanner and that usually comes up and I tell them to just replace the gas cap and let the code clear itself out

Seen lots of bad gas caps on GMs. Replace and go on. On the plus side, it's the easiest fix ever.

After work last night I cleaned the gasket and the filler tube's matting surface, then applied a very thin film of gasket lube to the cap's o-ring. So far after a few errands and going back and forth to work, my wife says all is well. We'll see how long that lasts.

Thanks for the input, everyone.
