Default Leaky shorty headers

I posted this in Pipes, boost and juice and got no response so hopefully you guys can help this is what it read:

A few weeks ago I had jba shorty headers installed in my 05 GT. As I drove it I felt the headers were hitting the frame for that reason I installed the Steeda HD motor mounts as it was recommended by JBA.

I can still feel the same sound coming from the engine from the underneath passenger side. Could this mean I have a leaky header instead? If so, is there any way to detect it without having to take it apart? Any help will do. Thanks

martin, i dont have shortys, but i do have the pypes x-pipe(offroad) and i just noticed a kind of banging sound. not real hard, but loud enough i could tell inside the car. it sounds like it is coming from the passenger side also. i thought it was the clutch. hmm. makes me wonder now.

Are you able to get under the car while it is running at all? If there is an exhaust leak, you'll be able to feel it

What you are describing is pretty much what I hear. I went underneath the car to see if anything was loose but could not find anything. The distance between the headers and the frame is still pretty tight but the steeda motor mounts has eliminated any play in the engine. If you get to figure out what it is please keep me posted or PM me, I need to get rid of that noise. If I get something first, I will let you know.

This might not have anything to do with your noise, but as far as hedders are concerned, the key to a successful hedder install is to keep tightening the bolts for a few weeks until they dont seem to need it anymore. Never had a gasket problem with hedders as long as I did that. Hope this helps someone.

martin, i jacked my car up and got under it while it was running and i think i have come to the conclusion that it is not an exhaust leak. i know the clutch is wasted so i am thinking its the clutch. i had a 4wd s-10 that made a similar noise and it was the clutch. i got my fidanza flywheel, im just trying to figure out what clutch to use. i am going to put my stock pipe back on the car in the morning. if the noise goes away, then we will know what it was, if not then its the clutch or tranny. isnt there a tsb for the tranny anyhow? i will keep you posted, jt

I have that same rattling noise...Its driving my crazy..Oddly though, it only happens through certain rpms and I could swear that either the header or the x-pipe is rattling agaisnt something ..I wonder..Could it possibly be that header mounted O2 senser?....It is in an awful tight spot. On the note of an exhaust leak, i'm pretty sure the rattling is not due to this as exhaust leaks are pretty easy to listen for and even narrow down at idle. Plus I can actually feel the rattle through the floorboard..not bad but the vibration is there .

SCstanger, I only get that sound, which is also driving me nuts, when the car is running and not at idle. Is this the same with you?

i checked to make sure the o2 sensors were tight. i am going to figure this out in the morning for sure. it doesnt have the tapping sound like an exhaust leak. but if you sit in the passenger seat, you can feel it thru the floorboard.

Martin...At idle I have no problems ..even free reving, no problems ..But once ya get rolling and certain rpm are passed, then I can hear and feel the rattle. Its so odd and hard to explain but if your experincing close to the same problem then y'all probably understand. It dosent rattle all the time ..just under moderate load and while at low rpms ..Once the motor revs past a certain point or at full throttle ...no rattle ..I've checked twice so far and and cannot find a clearence problem ..the rattle is driving me crazy.
