Default Newbie Q: Buying at 2014 GT Premium...

...and getting the electronics package.

A local dealer told me not to get a car that didn't have it installed at the factory. Another dealer told me the opposite. Anyone out there with the package on a 13 or 14 have any advice? I can wait for the car to be ordered so not a deal breaker. But they can't do a good job of putting in that system at the dealer?

Thanks!

All I have read is it is a real headache and expense if you do not get it factory installed. If you know you want it, why would you choose to have the dealer do it. Get it done right....at the factory.....my opinion.

It can be done...but you have to understand that the aftermarket head units are universal. It's the cutting and/or configuring of the faceplates and mounting thats the problem and the expense...

If you're willing to pay, i've seen some that completely integrate all of the standard button/**** functions onto the screen and it looks just as nice if not better than factory

I have a 2014 with factory Navigation system. The thing is, with the factory package, you get a bunch of extras with it. Like, a graphic EQ and a "Jukebox" which stores a few hundred CD's on it along with album titles, song titles, etc. Or how about the ability to play DVD's when car is in park? (You can only listen to DVD's when driving). The factory installed Navigation system is a "package". I'm betting the dealer version only does navigation. Oh, and Ford's navigation voice sounds just like Garmins voice, so I'm betting it's Garmin.

If you think you want the Electronics package, get it from the factory , factory installed. It's not worth the hassles and expense aftermarket. Plus, if you have issues with the aftermarket, too bad, so sad, Ford is not obligated to support it or warranty it.

Hello LVGully,

Welcome to the forum! My name is Deysha with Ford Service and I also agree with these awesome people. You should go with it installed from factory. It’ll have 3 years/36,000 miles of warranty, instead of the 12 months/12,000 miles of warranty for the authorized dealer installed one.

Also, once you place your order I’ll be more than happy to track it for you. Be sure to PM me with your dealer’s name and order number.
