You should ask if you can buy the hood before they sell it to the junk yard. Keep in mind that they are being very generous letting you take the mods off as long as you replace them with stock parts. They sell the car to the junker who then parts it out, so it does lower the value somewhat potentially for them, but very very little.
Unless he had the vehicle officially appraised and insured based on the aftermarket mods on it, it was insured as if a bone stock vehicle and the check they cut him was based on the value of a bone stock vehicle. As long as he is putting stock parts back on the vehicle, the insurance company has no legitimate reason to refuse his requests to do so. That, of course, doesn't mean that they can't or won't refuse his requests, but it sounds like they're trying to be reasonable, which is always nice.

Wow dude, your car climbed that tree!! Glad your were not hurt cause it sure looks like it could have been so much worse. Good luck finding a new baby. She will never fully replace your first love..... but she will love you long time too!

What a sad sight.... I know exactly how you feel about losing your first car/Mustang. I'm glad you're okay though! Keep your head up, I'm sure you'll be able to find a nice replacement come spring.
