stripe removal
does anyone have any experience removing the vinyl stripes that they are putting on the mustangs these days. i think i want to remove the stripes and the spoiler. would a heat gun make it easier and how hard is it to get the residue off. any info would be great.
a heat gun is probably the best thing to do, just dont keep it in one place to long, just enough to losen the decals, then you can use a product called goo gone to get the glue off, once all of the glue is off, id probably clay bar the car and then put a good coat of polish and wax on it. The spoiler you might want to go see a body shop for that one.
I peeled mine off in my girlfriend's driveway the second day after i bought mine while i was waiting on her to get home. Took about 8 minutes per side. The sooner you do it the better. I didnt use any tools, just got it started with my fingernails and did my best not to break it apart as i pulled. No residue at all, but the longer you wait the more of an issue you may have. Thats when you pick up a clay bar i suppose.
The only thing i've used a heat gun for on my stang was to peel those gawky Air Bag warning stickers off my sun visors. It sucks cause you end up with some residue, but its still better than having that thing screaming at you up and down the road.
Anyone have any suggestions for THAT?

Definitely heat gun on the stripes but becareful not to eat your paint up with too much exposure. As for the spoiler, it is really not that hard to do. Some good stuff is in the link below for removing it. Good luck.

I would not say they were easy or hard but just a pain in the butt. On the sides you have gravity helping keep them away from the car as you removed them versus rolling them on top of themselves as you progressed. Hope that helps.
I just took my stipes off today. I waited way too long, 10,000 miles in the Florida sun has baked them on pretty good. Ive got no fingernails left but I quick wash cleaned up the residue. I have used a blow dryer before near the edges for other cars which worked well to get it started. Just don't let the vinyl get away from you, if it rips you will have to get it going again, which is the hardest part.
Oh, and those damn letters. Be really careful near them where the width of the vinyl gets small, really easy to rip. All in all, one of the best things I have done to my car and it was free!

took mine off first chance i got to. TRUST me if youre a v6 owner its a great cheap mod. that stock stripe gives an unsightly height illusion between the wheels. when you take that stripe off the body line goes right to the side skirt and it is an immediate improvement... a much better stance. unfortunately it starts putting thoughts into your head about painting those side skirts body color @_@
...which im going to do next month.
