Thank you. I hope there is an easier fix than a new engine. I am taking it to a reputable mechanic. He cannot look at it until Monday but wanted to get it off the dealer lot and into his garage before bad weather hits this weekend.

If you haven't worked on an overhead cam engine, I wouldn't suggest starting with this project.
Timing chain sounds logical. I'm not qualified to take on this project myself.

I appreciate the feedback from everyone! I'll update everyone with what is found & what I do next.

I'd get a second opinion pronto from a reputable shop (not another Ford dealer, if possible).

UPDATE: Engine fixed!
All the error codes are resolved & car is running great. No new engine needed. It needed a new spark plug and a new solenoid.

Thanks for all the advice especially to get a 2nd opinion from a reputable shop.

ROFL really? all it needed was new spark plug and solenoid and the ford dealer wanted you to get a new engine?? thats just ridiculous!

when u get a second opinion, is it best to not tell them what the first opinion is? ie: is it better to say "the dealer said i need a new engine, what do u think?"

or

"my cars having some problems, can you take a look at it?"

which one did you do paruchda?

I'm not sure which is best.

My family knew this reputable mechanic long before he opened his shop, so I shared most of the details. First, I explained what the car did & that it was at the dealership. Then, I explained what the service rep recommended (I didn't mention the quoted prices). I also shared what their mechanic told me and provided the check engine error codes the dealership reported. (I actually emailed the details & called later that day.)

Wow, dealerships just keep upping the dumb factor. Glad you sought out a second opinion.

I feel like dealerships like that should be reported! thats totally unethical, and I am a huge ford fan but dealerships like that are a nasty blemish on the face of Ford.
