Anything you can do to make your car inhale (air intake) and exhale (engine exhaust) easier will make it more efficient.

I am sure with a little searching you can find some dyno sheets that will show. Sometimes you might only pick up five horses at the maximum reading, but you pick up ten horses across most of the powerband.

Anything you can do to make your engine more efficient will be felt in the seat of the pants. An intake, exhaust and tune might only get you fifteen horses at the outside on a dyno, but I promise those will be fifteen horses you will feel and know are there.

If you don't want to add boost, the main projects for you to 'bolt-on' will be an intake, headers, new mid X/H pipe with or without cats and a cat back. You will then tune and if you want you can put a lower gear in the rear end to make your power more accessible at a lower speeds.

You will be at $2k before labor for these mods, you will see 350BHP at the high end on the dyno and your car will run in the 13s with some practice and tire.

or you can be like me - keep it stock and reliable - and instead of spending a lot of money to get a little power, (unless you go boost) - spend a little money to get a lot of +appearance points!

it only takes one bad accident to make all the money you put in mods go down the drain. but if you're loaded and bored - have fun! (but its good to think about the future as well...)

OP, you need to educate yourself more on these cars first. If you don't know what the simplest mods should be, then you shouldn't touch the thing. Read the forums a bit and go to the major Mustang shop websites to see their suggested mods. If you think that CAI is a scam, then you reeeeallly should rethink what you know.

I cant say on the v6's about the efficacy of cai and tune combo but the efficacy on a normal gt is proven and documented and on my Shelby I will say I don't need it documented as the change in performance was clear. I will agree that the gains for a v6 will almost certainly not be anything like the larger displacement engines but i would not be so quick to write off the potential gains without doing research yourself first.

I suspect the gains are for more a net result of the tune rather than the cai itself as well.

What car is your 'experience' with CAI's based on? Ricardo is right, educate yourself. Leave your opinion at home and start learning the facts. Here are some Dyno numbers to look at...

With these new Mustangs, V6 and V8 included, there is a LOT of power left on the table from the factory. The stock air box is restrictive on the V6 Mustangs. Simply put a CAI and Tune will increase your HP tremendously. Here are numbers from CAI + 93 Octane Tune on a 3.7L V6.

Air Raid
-22HP
-30TQ

C&L
-21HP
-29TQ

JLT
-22HP
-32HP

Yes, these are all peak numbers but I can guarantee you that a gain of ~15-20 HP throughout the powerband is pretty standard. This means that even on normal driving you will notice more power. On a 305 HP V6 that is enough of an increase that you will notice it right away.

You are also correct, the factory intake manifold is restrictive. However, most guys don't change that out because of cost and gains can be had with much more inexpensive mods.

A friend of mine has a 3.7L V6 (2012 I think). His modifications are:
91 MPT Tune
Aiirraid CAI
BBK Ceramic long tube headers
Off-road X-pipe
3.73 gears
Flowmaster catback

He put down 297 RWHP/ 276 RWTQ. FACT
