Default Mid-Pipe Questions

Hey guys i have a few questions about Mid Pipes for a 06 Gt i heard it sends the check engine light on? is that okay? will it hurt my car and is it possible to take it off without a tune? Another thing is i live in WV and they have no emission laws here it says they don't check for smog but sometimes they will check if you have cats.. How does that make any sense?

Are you looking for an off road mid pipe or a high flow catted mid pipe?

An off road mid pipe will throw codes and you will have to have a tune to turn off the CEL.

A high flow catted mid pipe wont throw a code. I had magnaflows catted X and never through a code. I also had pipes metallic catted X and would through a CEL for efficiency.

I ran this UPR off road x-pipe in my 2006 GT. It added a noticeable amount of power, and I disabled the rear O2s in the tune.

I have a shorty high-flow catted xpipe with LT headers, it throws the CEL every now and then. For example, if i just start the car cold and drive at cruising speed, there's a good chance it'll pop up (usually bank 2 under threshold, sometimes 1) and then I just take my tuner out and clear it... No biggie. Take it really slow for the first 5 minutes.

I really don't want to spend the money for a high flow cat mid pipe and honestly I guess I could just put the stock pipe back on when I get it inspected. I just want a H pipe because I know I will like it I feel like I could possibly like a X pipe but I'm not sure of I will some I hear sound good some sound bad I already have borla stingers

I think that all depends on where you go and how much they care. On my old Thunderbird I had no cat ANd a cutout (which are technically illegal by WV statute), took it to Monro in Morgantown, they looked at it for awhile but passed the car without a word. They are supposed to do a VISUAL emissions equipment check but I think a lot of places don't.

I also thought I'd have issues with the longtubes on my car but they didn't say anything about them either. I honestly wouldn't worry about it too much...and if it happened and you did fail you could swap back to the stocker if necessary.

And, FWIW, I had an X pipe on my car for awhile and just didn't care for the sound it had.

I have kooks 1-3/4 3" collectors with 3" off road x along with borla stingers. Sounds amazing.

Not having the rear O2's won't hurt your motor.

If you are looking for an H-pipe, I have a Kooks stainless steel off-road H-pipe (quad exhaust though) sitting in my garage.

you will be fine.

Personally if you are thinking of changing up the system.

Dont go high flow cat its the same thing basically still restrictive.

Go with the off road pipe and clear it all out you will get some very noticeable power.

Most people don't understand how restrictive our exhaust systems are and how much power it kills from the car.

If your ok with your MPH dropping slightly then I say go for it.
