Thank you Pascal. You can now move this thread as I've made a decision thanks to everyone here and a few friends at work.
I talked with the family a little last night and they're a little concerned about other families at Fort Logan, so the plan is we'll do the processional in the vehicles to the graveside, then after the service, as we are leaving they want me to give it a good couple of solid, quick revs on the way out.

When I die, I'm going to ask my wife to get every mustang she can in the area to come to the service, rev up for 15-20 seconds, shut it down....then those who need to depart can go. The part she wont like is when I tell her I want to be buried in the snake. lol

I agree with what the others have said, if the family came and asked, you should do it....and have the family announce that because of his love and passion for cars/mustangs/whatever, we're going to do a few revs!
Sounds to me like the time you two spent together was special enough that he shared that with his family.
