Default Brake Pad Replacement Thickness

I have 5mm on the front and 6mm on the back left. The dealer said this is fine,
At what point should I replace the pads, and just out of curiosity does anyone know what the original thickness is for a 2012 3.7 ?

I don't have specific information for your car. If someone could post that, go for it. I would replace the pads at 3 mm. The original thickness was probably about 13 mm or maybe a bit less.

You have about 40% remaining all around. I usually try and sell brakes when they are between 10-20% which is about 3-2mm. You'll probably need them replaced i'd say before the next winter we have. You wouldn't want to hurt the rotors by waiting too long and grind into them but for now as long as theres no pulsation i'd say you are fine. New pads are usually 12mm or so.

I don't have the measurements, but I recently asked a mechanic that I've been doing business with for a couple years to check out my PU for what it may need. Said I didn't want to put money into it, but wanted to keep it safe and sound and that it was getting demoted to a "town ride" and not a daily driver of 46 miles round trip anymore. He gave me a couple of items to fix that I could do myself. He said my brakes only had 3 to 5k left in them. My view point is thin pads equal less heat dissipation and faster wear towards the end. Pulled my wheels, I'd say there was a least 50% pad left. A LOT of miles left. Waiting for the NC "Safety Check" next month to see what they say.

Thanks for the input. The car has 32,000 miles and I live in NYC. I would estimate that only 1/3 or 11,000 miles are stop and go, the rest local highway.

I a would guess if this stays the same I am good for 15-20,000 miles before a pad change.

I think the math got messed up along the way.

Let's say you start out with 12 mm. The pads should be replaced when you get to 3 mm. So you have 9 mm of usable pad.

If you have a total of 5 mm left, you have 2 mm left that is usable. You have already used 7 mm of the available 9 mm. I would figure on a pad replacement in about 10k miles.
