Default Engine Coolant?

Just wondering what kind of engine coolant everyone uses in their Mustangs.

I have a Mustang GT 2014 - manual.

Manual says to use this
STUFF. STUFF.

If what you're saying is correct, I'm really behind the times. For 2007, Ford specifically says NOT to use orange antifreeze. The 2007 specifies gold antifreeze. Motorcraft has it, as does Zerex (G-05). The Owner's Guide and symbol on the radiator cap warn not to use orange.

I don't know why Ford would recommend using the diluted antifreeze. From what I have read, the diluted has a shorter shelf life than the full strength stuff, so it's not what you want to keep around for an occasional top-up. You would dilute it with deionized or distilled water just before the top-up.

Also, you wouldn't want to use the diluted stuff after a flush. The reason is that you never get all the water out of the system by flushing. So you add full-strength antifreeze in a quantity based on 50 per cent of the capacity of the cooling system. Then you add deionized or distilled water to reach the correct coolant level. Otherwise, you are going to have less than 50 per cent antifreeze in the system.

Anyway, be sure to use what Ford specifies. Do not use "this antifreeze works with all cars."

This.

The owners manual is pretty clear. And, without a doubt, you do not want to go missing types of antifreeze or use the "works with all types/colors" stuff" in your Mustang.

The Orange is used in 2011 and newer, Gold is used in 2005 to 2010. Use what the owners manual recommends. You can get the un-diluted orange from a dealer and mix it with DI water 50/50 by volume to top off your tank.

I don't race and I don't run the car too hard either, mostly highway. So when it needs to be topped off, I go to an auto store and get what they have for my model.

Whatever you do, do NOT mix colors (as others have said and you probably know). It does make a difference to be sure you are getting the right color. Read the manual, it has it all in there. If you need extra assurance confirm with the auto stores computer or call a Ford dealer. If all three line up, you are good to go!
