Default CAI only!

Hello all,
I'm a newbie to the forum. I now have a 06 v6. I hear and read about CAIs , however it only is in combination with a tuning. Does the CAI have performance advantages without the tuning? Thanks.

No, if you get a CAI that doesn't require tuning then you didn't change anything with the air intake/flow. Even the "no tune required" CAI's will often cause trouble though.

The real performance comes from the tune however. Get the tuner, tune, and CAI combination and you will see the performance difference over stock.

Thanks for the reply. I have another question. After tuning, will a fuel octane upgrade be required and if so to what?

That depends on the type of tune you uplpoad. For example, I have three tunes in my SCT handheld tuner...93 octane, 91 octane and 87 octane. So, if you load a 93 octane, you obviously have to switch your gas to match the octane. Here's another side of this: You could upload a 91 octane tune and use 93 octane gas...BUT it;s not recommended you do it the other way around. Meaning, upload a 93 Octane tune and use 91 octane gas.
