I have a 2005 gt with 4.6 3 valve. I need to do a leak down test on # 5 cylinder. What is the correct way to do this? Any help would be great.

you need a leakdown tester. it has a gauge on it that measures the leakdown, you get each cylinder to BDC on the compression stroke with both valves closed, and the tester is installed into the spark plug hole, and using shop air will fill the cylinder and measure the leakdown http://www.motosport.com/product?psr...FQ6oaQody_wOYQ

 

that tester is for a dirt bike, so disregard, but you get the idea

 

You will also want to test more than one cylinder. Testing all 8 is best so you can compare leakage bank to bank and the cylinders next to the one in question.

 

what is a leakdown test?

 

its when u pressurize the cylinders with the valves closed, and measure that % of air that leaks from the cylinder, you do this to each cylinder and the readings should all be within 10% of each other. this helps determine if there is a sealing problem, and can be helpful in determining where the leak is
