I need lots of opinions on this. I have an 07 Mustang with a 4.0 liter with 147000 miles. The head cracked and spewed coolant all inside the cylinders. I was told it burned so hot it left a white powdery residue. The mechanic suggested getting a used engine and replacing it at a cost of about 4k. My question is, do I take the advice replace the engine which I cannot afford or do I buy two brand new heads and replace those and hope for the best?

4k sounds very expensive to me.

Should be able to get a motor fairly cheap. The 4 liter was used in many vehicles, Rangers, Explorers, Mercury Mariners, etc.

Labor maybe 1k or a little more.

Check with LKQ for a motor. Should be able you get one cheap and $1000 is normally the ball park for pulling a motor.
