Default nitrous

i saw that ZEX is making a nitrous system that is specific to the 05-06 mustang, saying that other systems will not work due to the new fuel system design made by ford

i was wondering how true this is and if anybody has installed any other brand of nitrous on their 05-06 stang

thanks

Yea, I saw that too...
I've asked around to see what was up with that... from those that I've talked too... it seems that ZEX is just trying to scare everyone into buying their system.

Supposably they have a gas/nitrous regulator that adjusts gasoline rate with nitrous pressure so that they always stay in balance... a decent bottle warmer will keep the N2O pressure constant, so there should be no need for such a regulator. Of course, the ZEX kit doesn't come with a bottle warmer, so maybe it's neccessary.

I also think there's something about cutting into the fuel rail, but I'm not real sure. The ZEX kit may have a special adapter to do it, but a standart T rail adapter should do the same thing.

And they have a nitrous cutoff in the event your fuel pressure drops, but so does the kit I ordered.

From the info I gathered, I decided to call up NitrousDirect.com and custom order a system from them with what I wanted. Ended up costing me more than the ZEX kit, but I got lotsa other goodies (bottle warmer, purge kit, etc) that don't come with the ZEX kit.

Hopefully I'll have my kit in the next week or so, and I'll know more about how truthful the ZEX kit ads are.

i was looking into the venom vcn-500 kit because i wanted a really discrete kit, it has a regulator that is supposed to control the ratios, you think that it would work?

IM STILL CONFUSED ABOUT NITROS, I know it can damage the motor but hos does it compare to Super Chargers? I blew up a 97 bottom end with a SC. I have an 06 GT and want to invest in a power adder but whats better? 100+ horses nitro for 600 or 100+ for 5000.00? besides price, what are the pros and cons?

It's all in the tune and how much boost you want to run...

After that it's really opinion and how much you want to spend.

N2O runs out and needs refilled (at $30-50 a pop), a SC/Turbo doesn't but does need rebuilt occassionally.

Really the simple answer, is to rebuild you engine with forged internals, and run both (*smirk*)

So I guess Ill stick with the Super Charger. How much on avg does it cost to set up a new motor with forged internals. Sounds like a lot of work.

It is a lot of work, and if you're not going to rebuild the engine yourself, it's gonna be quite expensive..
I'd guess $3-6K, but that's just a guess...

Doing the work myself with a little help from the neighbors across the street (I live directly across from a performance shop that works on Mustangs, lucky me), I'm looking at $1800-3000, and that's not counting new heads or incidentals (gaskets, grease, tools, etc). New heads will run me $1500ish.

Personally, I am starting with the nitrous. I have a 15lb bottle, and a wet install kit for the 05 mustang.
After I get that installed and operating/looking good, I'm getting a custom tune, and then having my 4.10" and trak-loc installed.
Then it's time for new wheels/tires, possibly lowering springs and other suspension work.

That should be good for a while. Then I'm getting a second block and building an engine from the ground up for myself. (is it wrong that I'm staying with the V6?)

If I stay at or under a 125 shot (and a good safe tune), I should be fine with the nitrous until I can get the second engine built.

Then it's time for some real fun! I've got a stupid crazy idea for how I want to run turbochargers, gotta talk to my friends at the muffler shop and see if they'll help me out with custom bending all the tubing I'll need... or at least let me use their mandrel benders while they're closed.

Of course, then I need a new tranny, new rear end, new blah blah blah blah blah blah blah... it's a neverending cycle...

I guess the point to all that is, start with a plan. Figure out where you want to be when you're finished, and take steps to get there. Don't waste your money/time on stuff you won't need in the long run. IE don't waste money on a CAI if you're going to get a supercharger.

I'm not 100% sure but I don't think the venom will work with our returnless fuel system...

The fuel rails don't have a diag port like past Mustang's so you need a special fuel rail adaptor... Zex makes one and I believe at least one other N20 company...

The 05 Mustang is "fly-by-wire" for the throttle. The Zex kit taps into this to determine WOT... Again I believe there may be another company out there or a 3rd party electronic WOT switch may be available...

So those are the 2 majore claims for the Zex kit:

1) Special Fuel Rail Adaptor
2) Electronic WOT switch

I've got some pics and stuff on my website...

Here's the fuel rail adaptor
