Glad to hear it! Yeah, I want more feedback on them tires too. I manage a Goodyear store and stare at the GS D3 all day long in my showroom, waiting for the stock BFG's to wear out so I can replace them with those.

Are those the 9" wide rim??

If they are the 9" -- I would think the tire size you selected would be too wide, and would suggest a 245/40-18 (Great tire size for a 18x9 Rim) or a 255/45 -18

IMO the 275 is too wide of a tire for the 9' rim and will cause the symptoms you are describing. You are right though, it seems alot of "Newer type Mustang" owners like the 275 for some reason, that said, alot do complain of handling with that tire size too. I personally like the twisties, so I go with a 245/40 on my 9" wide rim.

Good luck, and let us know what you find.
actually, the tire wheel combo handles beautifully (albeit with a bit more work on the wheel) although I agree the SCCA course type driving style isn't really my target. Couple of my buds have been trying to get me involved (they drive NEON SRT something or other, Subura WRX, Mitsu Lancer, 93 Z28) and I almost caved in last May at Summit Point's Friday at the Track.

Maybe this spring.

John

P.S. Nice goat...

Well, I can tell you the wet weather handling is unreal. I've had one hard corner that I purposely pushed and NOTHING broke loose, and one emergency avoidence of a tree branch coming down in the middle of a storm on a twisty road (wasn't supposed to rain that day!!), and the car didn't blink.

Road noise is non-existent although the Mac axleback burble probably hides it. I notice NO harshness over the stock tires.

I kept the stock 17" rims. Can you recommend a dedicated performance snow tire? JUST IN CASE?

You know, that color blue is begging for a 69-70 Boss or Mach 1 look.

P235/55R17 98V Goodyear Eagle Ultra Grip - GW3

http://www.goodyeartires.com/goodyea...rktarea=Winter

Dealer cost is about 140, use that for buying power.

Did you remove the retaining clip from around the stud, on the rotor. Used to keep rotor on while going down assembly line. Factory wheels allow room for these, aftermarket ones tend not to.
like the one in this picture on the stud in the 2 o'clock position. This has been known to cause vibration issues with aftermartket wheels
GREAT CALL on that one!!!!! Glad to see it worked.

P.S. Nice goat...

It's fun....maybe you can just try it for one day. FYI -- the WRX, Neon, Lancer etc. are all very good in SCCA SOLO2.

275's are definately not too wide for a 9" wide rims. 03-04 Cobras had 275/40 on a 17x9 and so did Z28 SS's. By the way, your car looks spectacular with that wheel/tire setup.

John - cave in man!! CAVE IN!!! Now, I'm talking road racing, not SOLO2....Once you get to run free on one, you will be road course junkie!

With the wider tires, man you'll love it! I ran with stock Nero's and wished I had more rubber. I upgraded my pads to Hawk EPS and installed Steeda braided brake lines - that helped with the pedal feel, but more brakes are still needed. But more brakes at this point for me means bigger wheels...then all of a sudden it's like a $3-4k upgrade ....yikes....but well worth it if you can swing it.

I ran against cars like you mention and just ate them up... I distinctly remember running against a while WRX Sti with a few mods (chip, suspension), and while I was faster all around the track, I was REALLY faster on the straight...once we hit around 80 it's almost like he lifted off the gas while I just burned by....

Oh man, I gotta get back out there!!!!

Stoenr,

Could you possibly circle the area you are talking about. I cant see it clearly on my cpu, not sure where on the rotor you are referring to. Just got 18" Falkens wrapped with 275's not too long ago, and still having minor vibrations here and there and i wonder if the clip removal will fix my problem as it did for jwgroovin.

Where did you learn about this? Why doesn't Ford remove it at the factory, safety thing or what?

Thank you in advance!!!

It's the studs on the rotor that have the clips. If you take off the wheel, TWO of the 5 studs will have a metal clip shaped like a flying saucer spun down over the stud and flush with the face of the rotor. My guess is that their 2mm thickness was enough to cause wobble even though the aftermarket wheel was tightened down, since the inner face of the wheel isn't flush with the rotor with the clips in place. It is NIGHT AND DAY once the clips are removed...
