Default How to quiet drone on muffler

I just bought MAC axlebacks for my 05 GT they sound like a beast and are great but the drone is pretty bad between 1800-2000 rpms. I heard an X pipe can reduce it but very unclear on that. Anyone know how to stop the drone?

thats one thing you have to experiment with is when you buy new mufflers. My dad bought three exhaust pipes for his harley until he was satisfied. I guess you should really read up on this before you buy. From what I read its corso that is the pipe with no drone. Sorry. Do what I do ignore the drone and enjoy the pipe. Or you could turn the radio up.

My son drove the car for the first time today while I was at passenger, and oddly enough, the passenger doesn't get the brunt of the drone, the drive does. Anyhow, I'm buying a dynamat trunk kit to insulate it a bit, and see if that helps.

I found the same thing today as well. I was the passenger and it's half what the driver gets. Let us know how the Dynamat in the trunk works, try placing it above the MAC's and to the front portion of the trunk?

I may try this as well this weekend, if I have time

When I installed my JBA shorty headers, that helped a lot. I also have JBA axle backs.

Guys:

I have MACS and love the sound they make but the drone is apparent at 1500-2000 RPMs...

Got the bright idea of insolating the trunk with the Dynamat , so I bought a roll...

Did the trunk, and cut pieces of this material to line the spare tire bed as well as the whole trunk...

Result: Drone is still there. I don't know if it's quieter but still there...

Heard that installing a Bassani X-Pipe will cure this problem...

Since winter is near in Chicago, will not change pipe until next spring...

I'm lost and have no other answers to this issue...

Please help with another solution... Thanks, Dave

Drop in some 4.10's and you wont be in that range long enough to hear it

Correct me if I am wrong but I thought the MACs were the loudest exhaust out there for the stangs?
