Lowered my '05 with Eibach Pro kit last week. Drove it out of town for the weekend and started hearing a rubbing/scraping when the car is in gear. Sounds like it is coming more from the rear (driveshaft maybe?), not the transmission. When I put it in neutral and coast it stops. I still have the stock 17 rims and tires. Anybody had this problem?

 

Welcome to the site. Did you install the adjustable panhard bar? If not then that and an alignment should fix your issues.

 

no panhard, but had it aligned. Any idea what is rubbing?

 

When you lower the car it changes the rears center. What you hear is one side tire rubbing. The adjustable panhard will allow you to recenter your alignment.

 

Uh, the panhard isn't needed with the Steeda springs, right? I heard the mild 1" drop shouldn't require this, but if so I need to order that...

the rubbing sounds more metallic and stops when I coast out of gear. Would'nt it be constant if that were the case? Thanks for the info.

 

With the 1" drop you are border line. They don't always rub it just pulls it to one side so that when your tire moves a certain way it hit the inside tire well.

 

i put on the eibach pro-kit and it only required an alignment and i have 18's all the way around...no idea

 

I wouldnt move it again till you find out what the rubbing is...as it only occurs 'in gear' sounds like only a couple possibilities my little mind can think up:

1) axle is torquing, pushing pinion 'up'(btw- driveshaft goes thru the fuel tank hump...) when torque is applied. Would only imagine this could occur if control arms were unbolted to install the springs(doubtful, but dunno) and pinion angle cam was changed a lot at reassembly(again assuming upper arms are adjustable like an old ford.).

2) torque is rocking engine/exhaust far enough to contact driveshaft or wheel- doubtful, but look for a close spot, as it shouldnt move more than 1/8" or so...

3) raising the axle can push the driveshaft forward a bit- shouldnt be a problem, but if driveshaft was a bit long, who knows...seems to me I saw the stang uses a center carrier bearing also- any chance when lowering the axle to drop in the springs the bearing might have overextended/pulled out of the rubber?(assuming its similar to a truck setup, still havent got mine yet so dunno...). If bearing popped out of place, perhaps it rubs somewhere when torque is applied...

I would expect overextended center carrier bearing most likely culprit, but like I said, aint got my car yet to know well enough what it all looks like under there...just benchracing here...
