power train cuts out
I have a 2014 Shelby GT500, and on two occasions as I accelerated on the highway the power train suddenly disengaged! the engine did not die! All was still running fine, just no power to the drive train, as if the transmission dropped out. the wrench light came on, pulled over and tried first gear, nothing, tried reverse, nothing. I turned the car off and looked under the hood, under the car, looked to see any obvious signs. I called my father who used to build cars and race, and he said we need to try several things, first turn the car on, and check the fuel. but when I turned it back on, the wrench light was gone. Plenty of fuel. I tried first and all the power was back. I tried reverse and all worked perfectly. I got back on the freeway and everything worked perfectly. Then it happened 3 months later about 4 days ago! I just pulled over, turned it off and back on and all was good. What I want to know is, has anyone seen this behavior before? I can't seem to find it anywhere online. I found a youtube video where a guy was street racing a 5.0 and the exact same thing happened and he was also baffled. Strange.

ha ha that's funny, Carroll Shelby didn't make 2014 GT500 automatics. They are all manual. I suppose someone might convert it, which is sacrilegious to me.
If it was these things, then it wouldn't clear on a restart. If the clutch goes out, or another physical issue, it would not correct itself, it would stay broken. the car clears once I turn it off and on. all is fine again. runs totally normal again. I read somewhere that these cars have sensors that detect any discrepancy in the drive chain and shuts it down to protect damage to the car. But no one has been able to verify that.
It sounds like this is a rare issue.

I saw it was a GT500, but I apparently falsely recalled that they had offered an auto (Which I too thought would be an abomination) in the 2013-2014 model along with a convertible... Maybe I was just thinking of the old autocross favorite Shelby badged mustang GT form 2007/2008...
But I do know several people in drag racing have converted to Automatics.
I know various default 'features' are de-fueling to protect the car, the only thing I could think of that they could do to decouple the drive train would be to put hydraulic pressure the the salve cylinder in the clutch... I guess if they had something designed into the transmission they could have something pop it out of gear and block re-engagement, but I would think you would feel that in the gear shift when trying to get it into gear. Sounds odd. I'd say talk to someone who tunes a lot of GT500's (think lethal performance, Lund, Brenspeed, AED, RET, etc.), but only if you have used them or plan to get tuned by them or work done by them... out of respect, don't waste their time.
