Default Anybody got locking nuts (on their rims)

Wondering if having al ocking nut on my rims would be worth it. just for security of course but then is it really worth the trouble... anyone have any horror stories? pros or cons on the use of locking nuts? i have a chance to get them but ive never had my wheels stolen before. Then again ive never had 18 inch chrome.....

any tips?

The Pros:

Wheel lock have always been cheap insurance against wise guys and thieves...

I got 'em and have bought a set for every car I've driven that has custom aftermarket wheels...

The Cons:

Don't lose the wheel lock key socket or you are cooked...

You'll have to write and call the manufacturer and order another key socket, if you have the access code that they gave you when you bought 'em...

I agree with discofan.... to a point.

If a Professional is swiping your wheels.. it doesn't matter what you have holding them on.... Pro's carry a keyring with master keys for 99% of the locking nuts out there. So if a Pro wants your wheels, he is going to get them. but .. locking nuts will keep the neighborhood bored teeners from swiping them because they have nothing else to do.

If you lose your wheel key... your local Ford dealership can fix you right up. and Most larger tire stores have masters they can use to get them off. Many people with locking nuts eventually end up replacing them with regular nuts when it comes time to buy new tires.

anything to slow thieves down is great, generally they take the whole car, you draw a lot of attention taking wheels. there is a universal socket that has teeth that grip the lock nut. it's driven on with a hammer then easy to loosen the nut. many lock nuts aren't torqued as they are somewhat fragile so are easy to remove.

I got them because they came with the car. If it wasn't for that, I wouldn't have them since I live in BFE.

I got them with the car but have had them on quite a few vehicles in the past.
They will only deter the local kiddies, if someone wants your vehicle/wheels
they will get them.

They are a PITA. I cant see how someone could have a master to 99% of the locks out there. There is soo many styles of locks, along with different patterns. But as Huffhuff said there are special sockets with teeth on them that can get 99% of wheel locks off.
Gorilla locks are the best IMO, if you must have them.
Locks can wear out, break, or even lost.

Haha, what are you going to do when you out on the highway and get a flat! Call home and have someone run you the key out? LOL. Not a good idea.
