Default Cam position sensor

Hello
I just bought a 2006 gt 4.3 v8 with 5 speed manual.

I got the camshaft position sensor code and replace the sensor but it keeps coming back on. I've tried different 3 different sensors but all of them fail after about 2 days or 30 or so miles.

has any one here had this issue? If so we're you able to fix it and how so? I'm stumped.

Thanks friends.

Jeff

The commonest causes of cam position sensor codes on the 4.6 V8 are failing alternator diodes (allowing AC current to leak into the wiring harness), a failing timing chain tensioner, or a knocking cam phaser. The sensor itself rarely fails.
If your engine doesn't knock or rattle, I'd put my money on the alternator.

Hello thanks for this information. Hopefully this will do the trick. I can change an alternator but a timing chain tensioner no way and I have no idea what a cam phaser even is. I'll let you know.

Thanks again!!

the bench test at auto parts stores doesn’t test the alternators sine wave. They just check the voltage and amperage. The sine wave of the electrical, current is what messes with the cam sensor signal. You need an oscilloscope to see it.

if you want to be 100% certain, take the alternator to an auto electric (automotive electrical specialty)shop and tell them you want the sine wave checked out. If they are a good shop and know what type of vehicle you have, they’ll know why.

Alternatively if you have a digital multimeter, you could perform an AC ripple test. There are several YouTube videos describing the procedure.
