Just purchased this 2008 Shelby Gt 500 KR Although only 600miles I want to put new tires for safety reasons. No racing just a driver . Original tires are the Goodyear eagle f1 super car Presently no new ones available . Anyone have any tire suggestions. Another forum suggested Michelin pilot sport 4s Any thoughts out there

 

Nice Mustang! I had a chance to buy one of those when they came out. The dealer was a friend of mine and called me saying he had one that he ordered for a Ford exec who then decided he didn't want it. Said I could have it at sticker if I wanted it (everywhere else they were asking big ADM) or if one of my friends came in referred by me he would sell to them at sticker.

Didn't do it and my wife last year when she saw how much they were going for said, "why didn't you grab that one".

I was happy with the Nitto 555G2 that I had on two of my Mustangs. In the past I also had the Continental Conti Extreme Contact Sport and thought that was a good option. My car has the performance package and came with the Pirelli PZero summer tire - don't plan to go with them when I replace them; they are okay, but better options are out there.

 

I don't drive enough miles to justify getting the Michelins. I have been extremely happy with the Nitro 555 G2's going up one size from stock on my GT. After they become 6 years old I will put a new set on.

 

Nittos won't handle the power that car puts down. I have a 2008 mustang GT with the mods in my signature and I can easily break my Nitto 555 G2's loose either off the line semi-aggressively or coming out of a slow corner and jumping on the gas. They are better than any BFG tire but still leave a lot to be desired for dry weather performance. They also don't last very long (20-30K miles) which would be fine if they had better dry weather grip to justify such fast wear.

For reference, I have a staggered 235/50-R18 on the front and a 255/45-R18 on the rear. This helped some with the breaking loose in both scenarios but, still pretty easy to do in either situation.

Continental Extreme Contact Sport from Discount or comparable from other sources have really good traction and stopping reviews. That's where I'm headed with my new tire purchase coming up winter of this year.

Oh and Pirelli's are crap

 

Maybe its the relocation brackets or other suspension mods I have that make the tires workout. I worked hard to find the right combination. I am stock power wise. Also here in AZ we have really warm road temps.
