Default Timing chain

I could really use some help. I am new to the Mustang forums and a mustang itself. I have a 2012 mustang V6 that I bought for my son. It has a timing issue and everything I looked at told me the max cost would be around $1500 and now I’m getting told over $5000 which is not even worth doing to me. All the sensors checked out so they’re wanting to open it up and remove valve gasket covers and they want over $700 just to do that to check to see if it needs time in chain for verification and this is after I have spent $200 on diagnostics, and I guess that could not tell them. All that told him was that the sensors were ok. Then once they get in there, if the timing, chain and gears need replaced. They want another $4200 to do that. Everything I looked up on replacing a timing chain was $1500 max and they are wanting over $5000 to fix it. Which at this point doesn’t make sense with the 2012. I’m not sure the cost to put a brand new engine in. Can someone please help me and help me understand if they’re trying to screw me over? Is this seriously how much it should cost? I also have an itemized list of the estimate. I just don’t want to spend over $1000 just to see if they’re gonna want another 4200. I really appreciate any assistance. I just bought this car for my son and he’s gonna be very disappointed.

They're definitely trying to screw you over. Find another shop.
