I run a V1, personally, but I think you can get the red LED version of the 8500 X50 for about $300. Somewhere in that ballpark, anyway, and it's a first class detector.

I have the Escort Solo S2. It is the best cordless radar detector out there. If you don't mind the cord I would go with the beltronics rx65. It has the same electronics and the Escort 8500 and a couple extra programable features aswell a ku band. ( if you didnt know beltronics and escort are one of the same)

V1 is my vote. Talk yourself into spending the extra 100 bones you'll thank yourself later. I was a hardcore Escort fan up until about 6 months ago when I gave the Valentine a try and I'll never go back. The directional detection and bogie count is priceless if you do a lot of city/highway driving.

passport 8500 x50 keeps me safe. V1 and Beltonics 95(something) are about the 3 top detectors to date. for $100 more thatn the passport you can get the V1 w/ direction detection and bogie count. they've all got their own strong points over the others.

I like the cordless Escort model. No power cord. Also, rechargeable batteries are economical and easy to change. The performance is impresive too. I'm all about the cordless clean look. Also, you can mount the unit almost anywhere on the winsheild to make it less conspicuous.
