you guys see the K& N Filter Problems ?????
Did you guys see the "write in" question in the
Dec Road & Track Magazine about over oiling K & N
filters will cause the mass airflow sensor to fail, and the
check engine light will come on. Interesting problem to
get the correct amount of oil when servicing the K & N
filters. This particular car was a Nissan Maxima, but I
suppose thia same situation could occur with a Mustang.
Question if I should buy a K & N filter for my new Mustang

I just hear about this problem and that over time the filter can deteriorate and get sucked into the motor. Again, neither were on a Mustang that I read about, but it makes me just a little nervous.
I have been using K&N's for years-on several cars with no problems. Just read the instructions , and remember if a little is good-more isn't better. I have a new one for sale (300 miles) if you're interested.
i also have used k&n air filters for years. every vehicle i have owned has had one. never any problems. put one in my 5.0 when new and it was still there with no probs 12 years later 180,000 miles sold the car but wanted to keep the filter
.
.
When I went in for my first oil/lube/filter change (lucky me found a coupon in the paper and saved $18 at the dealership) I told them to leave the air filter alone as my husband put in a K & N one. I noticed he wrote it down in the dealership's computer to alert them to the fact its in there. We use a K & N in the motorcycle too. Have heard nothing but good about them for the motorcycles.
My beater has had a K&N filter in it for years. I put it in at 81,000 kilometers. The car now has almost 220,000 kilometers. The engine uses 1/2 liter of oil in 5000 kilometers. It did that when it was new. It still does it. I service the K&N every spring. I have never seen the check engine light come on nor had any other problems whatsoever. As far as I'm concered there are no problems using a K&N filter.
I've got an AFE CAI in my Mustang that went in before the car had 3000 kilometers on and it uses a K&N style filter. I am confident in the design. I wouldn't worry about using a filter like this at all. Just be sure to follow the directions and you'll never have a problem.

I think I am having that problem. Installed a K & N Air Charger and shortly thereafter my check engine light went on and the car started misfiring. I have a 2005 V6 Mustang. After clearing the code twice the dealer recommended that I take it out. Did that and wouldn't you know, the light just came on again today. Guess I will be taking it back for the 5th time. Really pissing me off. Also, the dealer told me that he didn't think the K & N was causing the error code. I don't know what it is, but I am trying to get answers. Any help?

Did you let it sit out and "drip dry" before you put it in the car?
If you notice, the little baggie they come in are always soaked with excess oil.
My 97 Saturn has had a K&N filter for 50,000 and not a problem
Love mine.
I am a little concerned about all the neg. talk about not filtering properly and putting one in my Mustang.
