I let the dealership change the oil at 5,000 miles...I understand the Mustangs come from the factory with synthetic in them thus the longer time between changes not like the regular oil needed every 3,000. Why don't you call your dealership and ask exactly what they put into the Mustang on the first oil change? I had the guy write it down on my bill so I would know what they put in it if hubby decides to change it next time. (bill not right in hand to tell you...)

Avid/Rabid Redline fan here! Redline 5w-20. If life is bad and you can't get it there, Mobil 1.
Same feelings about Tufoil. www.tufoil.com Been using for years. I put a 10% mix in my 5 speed tranny also. 8 ounces each oil change. That is going to be every 5k miles in the GT.
My last car, used the above, except used 20w-50. Old BMW 4 banger, had mods, but, our GT's do not work anywhere near as hard as that 4 banger works! 259k on total car, 127k since modified engine built. 26 sets of tires have gone to meet their maker, and it runs like a swiss watch, wit out much oil consumptionl. Changed every 4k miles.
Also use in my '89 GMC 4x4 4.3 litre. Every 4k miles, 148k on the odo.

I guess it takes a real mustang or car enthusiast to really change his own oil. I would expect this from both guys who just told you to go to the dealership to get it done. Expect his from guys who own 6 cylinder vehicles.
By the way, what's the gas mileage on your v6. algregory is right also. Redline is also a good oil. You see, it seems he has a GT.
