FORD (Found On Road Dead)
Well I am driving out in the middle of West Texas....when all of a sudden my Check Charging System light comes on....then every light possible comes on at once...the radio goes out...lights go off.....EVERYTHING!! So as I start to pull over the car just dies on me....so when I get to a stop I try to crank it again...only to hear a loud CLACK CLACK CLACK and nothing happens....so I call my Mom (which is where I was visiting) she heads out to pick me up...I call Roadside Assistance and they are on the way...then a nice man pulls over who happens to be a mechanic and he says the alternator has gone out...he was astonished that an alternator had gone out on an 8 month old car with only 12,000 miles on it....long story short....Jim Bass Ford in San Angelo Texas had to tow my car into their dealership and I am currently waiting at my Mom's house to go pick it up....I am a little scared to drive it all the way back to Austin....hopefully it won't die again.
It was so sad to see my car up on that tow truck being pulled away.
Has anyone else had this problem before?
Thanks.

Well last year we purchased a Dually F350 powerstroke, King ranch. It has all the options you can dream of except the price tag of course.
Anyway,
2 weeks after buying this thing, the engine died on my way home. It just stopped and was doing the same clicking sound you are describing when I tried to restart it.
I was really pissed because I pull my fifth wheel (and 2 young kids) with it and it could have been a major safety issue. It was funny when they tried to tow that sucker with a small flat deck. The front wheels of the deck barely touched the ground.
The dealer said I had an injector that was missing an oring and the leak developed a couple of weeks later.
Go figure,
I guess the robot missed a beat.

It Happens, i drive Mercedes-Benz all the time, u should see the service bays there, they have a ton of problems, mostly electrical, there is so much computers and technology in these cars its crazy, the cars today are great but all this computer crap is a pain, all man made machines will break down sooner or later, at least u r covered under warranty..still sucks..

It happens... Out of 100K+ alternators made, some are bound to fail. FWIW I saw a very nice, new, $100K Porsche 911 sitting on the side of the road at 6am in NJ with all kinds of road side assistance. They had flares going and lights flashing. And.. they were holding up traffic to boot!
