Alternator Issues with Supercharger
Hello
The vehicle is a Mustang 10/2005 GT, once purchased a very high powered sound system was installed and the digital meter in the boot was constant 14.4 Volts. It was like this for a few weeks and was working 100% at full output. Once the Selene Super Charge kit was installed by Ford, drove it out of the workshop and the stereo would cut out and stop straight away. Looking at the voltage on the digital meter it was charging at 13.6 Volts. I have lost nearly one volt putting in the super charge kit in.
After talking to the local electrician he believes that when they spun the alternator 180 degree facing the other way they did not factor in that the internal fans in the alternator are directional. Originally the alternator spun clock ways but now it spins anti clock ways thus causing the alternator to heat up as the air flow has been reduced. The electrician thinks there is a heat affective component causing it not to charge at 14.4 volts due to the heat stress. Ford says they have never had an issue like this. The stereo has totally been disconnected and still the same. Has anyone struck this issue? Also how do I get a direct link to Motorcraft the manufactures of the alternator? I can’t seem to find there direct email.
Cheers
Nick
