Default Extended warrantee?

My dealer is trying to sell me a 6 year extended warrantee for about $2500 for my new Mustang. This is NOT a ford plan, they claimed that the Ford plan wasnt as good. What are your thoughts on 3rd party extended warrantee plans, and does $2500 seem reasonable for a 6 year plan (the standard ford coverage is 3 years). Thanks.

I personally would never buy an extended waranty. Plus my warranty will pretty much be gone after 10K miles b/c of the super charger I'm putting on it.

But, if I was going to get one, I'd get it thru my bank or credit union. They're the ones taking your money anyway so you might as well pay the people who have your best interest in mind. Meaning you're not going to pay your loan back if they don't fix your car.

The dealer is going to try to sell you everything he can, right up to the minute you sign. Extended Warranty, Etching, GAP insurance, Special Service, etc. Say no to it all IMO but if you want the peace of mind go for it.

Don't throw that much money away. I would go with the Ford plan. Go to their website and buy it there direct. You will get a better price than the dealer will give you and you can pick several options.

I agree with Lawman. You can google FORD ESP and find a bunch of dealers that sell them pretty cheap. I think I got my PremiumCARE 5/75K plan for $840.

you are being ripped off-- after calling a few dealers i got the 6 yr /48,00o mile full coverage ( $ 50 ded ) ford warranty for $ 830. i don't put any more than 6,00 miles/yr on my cars and the ford plan gave multiple options . shop around.

That's way too much. You can even get the warranty from your insurance company. Check with them.

Got 5 yr with the 36,000 (I'll do less that 7k per year) for $500 through dealer. I don't even know if I can hold off on the SC for 5 yrs but for $500 what the heck. ...bought under x-plan for nice discount anyway.

I think I bought a warranty through First Extended Warranty. It is a 7yr 72000 mile warranty. I don't think i paid over 2000 for it but it is nice because it is a no questions asked warranty. I had the same company on my last truck that i was spraying nitrous on and believe it or not they replaced the tranny when i blew it up. I just have to pay a $50 deductible.

I've found that 3rd party warranties SUCK, plain and simple when you go to use it they will deny the work done is covered. The Ford extended warranty is more than 50% less, covers everything needed and will be covered by ANY dealer you take it too.

3rd party warranties, no matter what the idiot sales guy claims to say is only covered by the dealer or local dealer network that the 3rd party recognizes.

Key points to the Ford warranty VS the 3rd party:

The only extended service coverage Backed by Ford Motor Company
With ESP, you're confident knowing you're covered at over 4,600 Ford, Lincoln and Mercury dealers in the U.S. and Canada
I have the 5 year 75k Ford warranty with covered maintenance, one tranny at 60k is easily worth the cost not to mention the slew of other parts covered.
