4.10 gears
i know this is gonna sound kinda stupid but i just sold my wheels off of my F-250 and i am ordering a C&L CAI and the SCT X-Cal II tuner and i am thinking about putting 4.10 gears in it to. I am just wanting anyones opinion on how much difference the gearing will make. Any help would be apreciated.

RE: 4.10 gears
they make a lot of difference especially from takeoff. the only thing i would take into consideration would be how much daily driving you do and what speeds you are usually going. remember, your RPM's are gonna be a lot higher as apposed to the stock gears. point being is that you will reduce your gas mileage some especially when highway driving. i got the 3.73's and i personally love them. wishing now that i would have gone with the 4.10's though.

Hey Stepup,
4:10 gears will make a huge difference in your acceleration. If you're interested in a set, let me know. I have both Ford Racing and Richmond sets on www.ProMustangPerformance.com Let me know if you have any more questions.

I also offer the C&L cold air intake, and can get the Ford Racing system also, along with the Diablosport Predator, and the Superchips tuner also. Let me know what you need, and I can get it for you. Hope to hear from you soon

Make sure you stick with Ford racing gears they seem to have less problems with noise. I have a friend in my Mustang club that had two sets of Richmond gears put on his 05 drove around for several months then ended up biting the bullet and switching over to the Ford gears the Richmond gears were driving him crazy.

i've had the same problem with motive and precision 3.73's. i saw that frpp just came out with a redsigned version of the 3.73 gear. it has a back cut ring gear just like the factory set in the 05-06's. don't know if they have done the same with 4.10's yet. i can't bring myself to buy another set of gears since i'm not sure it's really the gears that cause the whine. i found that the carrier(positraction unit) has .003-.005 runout causing the gear to move oblong as it turns. this may be the culprit. it would explain why they had so many problems with the explorer and rangers also. they had 3.73 from the factory and lots of problems with noise. the mustang shares the same posi unit (31spline) as the explorer. hope you have better luck and i'll vote 4.10's or even 4.30's.

thats great. i may have to break down and buy another set. this time the new gears from frpp. i'm going to find a eaton or auburn posi unit also. i am only doing this job one more time.

Yeah, I'm getting pretty sick of my Posi to. (I have broken it 3 times) and it's half-AsX right now. I'm also looking for something else to replaxce it (preferably eaton) before I take it off AGAIN.
BTW: 4.10 or 4.30's but if your main driving is on the highway and your putting lots of daily miles on it - I would stick to the stock.
EDIT - you would think we could get a step up from the damn explorer?

RE: 4.10 gears
how much worse would the gas milage be? i dont drive far- just 16 i dont have a daily job or anything... but if its too much then i cant do it because my car is so much, i barely make enough for gas and the car payment and insurance, and still have a life.
