Default passenger airbag

Can someone tell me how to enable the passenger side airbag? When someone sits in it, the light comes on stating the airbag is off. I've looked for a switch or something, but can't seem to figure this out. Kids don't ride in my car, so I'd like to protect who ever is riding with me.

the switch is activated by weight, so if theres weight in the seat over 10pds? but under 60? the airbag turns off. I dont know if they are the excate ammounts, but im guessin close to.

Edit

I dont think Fords wants a 50lb kid getting hit in the face with an airbag.

Also i dont know why the airbag is on, when there is no weight in the seat! seems like a waste of airbag if it goes off

burd,

This doesn't sound like it's working right for you. When my kids (all over 75 lbs) sit in the seat, the light stays off. If they move around a lot (like stand up off the seat, etc.) the light will come ON, but when they sit back down, the light goes OFF.

To the other reply above---I think the airbag IS off when the seat is empty, even though the light isn't on.

I think it goes like this:
Empty seat---no light, bag shut off.
Seat with light load---light is ON, but bag is off.
Seat with heavy load---no light, but bag is ON.

Read the manual, I guess---seems like there is info about this in there??

I looked in the manual, but one of the papers that came with it shows a turn dial switch that I cannot find. I am going to the dealership this weekend, so I'll have them check it out. Even when I have a 200lbs adult sit in the seat, the light comes on saying the airbag is off.

my wife's 06 escape has that light too. I find that if I don't sit with my lower back and butt against the seat (if I'm slouching), the light stays on. Sounds like the sensor isn't placed right in your seat or is disconnected. Does it turn off at all?? Try sittin in it with your butt and lower back wedged into where the back of the seat and the seat cushion meet.

It is also seat belt reliant. My 86lb. son can pull the seat belt away from him and the light cuts off. If he just lets it sit on him naturally the light stays on. He is fairly tall and very skinny. Although I suppose it could also be that pulling the seatbelt away from him pushes him in the seat just hard enough to trigger it.

About the air bag being on with nobody in the seat. I think that is Fords fail safe. That way if the sensor malfunctions and there is someone in the seat the bag will still go off. The majority of the time there is going to be someone over 60 or whatever pounds.
