Default WS-6 vs. Mustang Gt

Guy i work with wants to bet me $500 in a 1/4 mile race. His WS-6 is completely stock, and my Mustang GT is completely stock. Do i stand a chance? Figured i'd get some input before i became poorer and had my ego smashed. Any input would be appreciated.

From what I've read and seen, it would be a driver's race all the way. If you get the jump on him and can shift, you probably would hold the lead to the end. If he gets the lead on you, he will hold it to the end. Far too risky to do it. If you do, you'd better set the terms to best 3-of-5 or 4-of-6 or something.

I had a '98 T/A, and stock it should run about a 13.4 - 13.8 1/4 mile depending on auto/manual driver, etc... I could run 13.8's all day long with a stock T/A Automatic.

one thing i do know about him is that he sucks at lauching his car off the line, when that is one of my strong points. So i might stand a chance. Your probably right about the 3 out of 5, just in case he gets lucky and gets a good launch.

What are the years on the WS-6 and your GT? I have an example on the WS6:
Standard Engine:
5.7-liter V8

Horsepower:
325 @ 5200 RPMS

Torque:
350 @ 4000 RPMS

City/Hwy:
18/26 MPG

2005 Mustang GT
Horsepower 300HP

If both of you are stock I would put my money on the ws6 but miracles do happen..........good luck.

WS6 from start to finish. You'd need at least a Tuner to keep up. Those LS1s are beasts all over the RPM range.

But you also have to consider that 300HP isn't accurate. Ford under rated it, just like they do for all of their engines.

Isn't the LS1 what the 04' GTOs had in them, and i've seen the 05' mustangs beat the 04' GTOs quite a few times. Is the WS6 just set up better than the 04' GTO?

What tuner do you recommend and how much $? Also can you save the stock programming into it so you can change it back to stock to bring the car in for warranty work? What are the performance increases with it?

Yes the 04 GTO's do have the LS1 in them. 350 hp. They are basically the same. Maybe a slight weight difference between the two. I would recommend the SCT X-Cal 2, its great and will run you about $380.00. Yes you can save your stock settings before bringing it in for warranty work. The performance increases vary depending on what mods you have done to your car. When you order the tuner they will ask for a list of mods that you have done to your car and create you 3 tunes based upon your mods.
