Default LT Header Self Install

Hey Guys First time on the forums here. Yeah so I'm going to try and install LTs myself, and I'm kinda in the middle of the project right now. I've picked Stainless Works 1 5/8" with offroad piping. I'm already running SLP Loudmonths in the axleback and it sounds great with stock cats and h pipe, but it just isn't loud enough for me casue I want poeples ears to bleed when I drive by. Currently I've removed the stock catted h-pipe and manifolds from the block. That took about 4 hours cause I'm no pro and its fun so I want to take my time and enjoy the project. Headers are coming from summit racing around Tues/Wed this week so my baby is just sitting on jack stands w/o an exhaust systems and was just wondering if anyone had any pointers or helpful infomation for me, or if anyone wanted any pictures while I had everything ripped apart for a couple of days. I'll post what pictures i've takin so far. I'll try to help with any questions you may have too.

gear wrenches were a miracle tool for me on this mod. it is so tight in some spots that it's the only way i could get the new header bolts tight. you may also need to replace the engine mounts. i found that the hooker l/t's would rub the steering shaft during a right hand turn. it is pretty scary when it first happens so don't be freaked out if your steering feels like it's locking on you. i used prothane mounts got on ebay for about $100. so far everyone who has any brand long tubes has done this i think. i've talked to two people with different brands than me and they also had clearance issues with frame or steering. it's something they don't tell you in the instuctions.

Here's a post that will give you more information.

http://www.modularfords.com/forums/2...led-41723.html

I help him with the install. You will need to remove the starter and right motor mount and lift the motor some with a jack. When you install the headers MAKE SURE TO TORQUE THE MOTOR MOUNT BOLTS. Mine weren't torque and I had to take my car to the dealer who re-position the motor on the sub frame and torqued the bolts, cost me $500.
Good luck.

yeah it's probably easier to remove the motor mount bracket from the engine. i didn't and those bolts behind it were a pain in the azz. you are right the starter definitely has to come off. hooker did not have that in the instructions but hell, who reads instuctions anyway?

Wow, you guys just made me a little nervous. I just recieved my Hooker LT headers and was planning on installing them next weekend. I must admit i'm a novice but a buddy of mine said he would help. I think I read about xtra parts I need or something? Should I just pay to get them installed?

Is it safe to lift the engine by placing a floor jack under the k-member and lifting that way? Casue I see a spot on the k member that looks like would hold up well enough. How did you guys do it? And as far as installing new motor mounts, would you say that pretty easy? It looks like its just 3 bolts on each side.
