Well, i talked my dad into gettin an engine-less car body... and then just renovating everything and making it a monster of a car. But- we need to pick a specific car and go for it... any suggestions?

Something American of corse...

I'll be serious, despite the temptation to say something smart.

First, give some thought to engine size. Big block or small block? Pick something that will hold your engine with as little fabrication as possible. If you're gonna have a Ford motor, use a Ford body. If it's a Chevy, buy a GM car.

Second, what will be the intended use? Street? Strip? Both? How fast do you wanna go? Those answers will dictate how much safety equipment will be needed (rollbar, beefed-up rear-end, brakes, etc).

If I were building up a roller into a monster, I'd find a Ford product that would hold a 460 crate motor:
[ul][*] 67-73 Mustang[*] Fox Body (Mustang or 88 Turbo Coupe)[*] 67-70 Cougar[*] 66-67 Fairlane[*] 66-70 Falcon (which should hold a BB)[*] go old school and build a Hot Rod
[/ul]

If you are open to different body styles, you should be able to find a bargain out there. Just buy one in the best condition you can find.

OK, if you're looking for an inexpensive project car I'd suggest either an 87 - 92 Mustang, or a 87 - 91 Camaro; Both are classic american cars and are fairly easy to find in decent shape and best of all they are both dirt cheap to buy and build and yet still hold some street credibilty; Just my two cents worth.

i'm with the rest fox body car is the way to go. ford made a bunch of cars with the same platform, fairmont,zephyr,ltd2,capri,mustang,tbird,cougar that gives a choice of something besides a mustang and most of the suspension pieces will interchange with all these cars. my brother has a 86 t-bird with a cleveland i used to have a 78 fairmont with a 460 and my dad had a fairmont with a cleveland in it. they make headers and mounts for any engine combo in that car even small block chevy> yuk.

Thanks for the input everybody... i really appriciate it. We kind of are on a bit of a budget, but its not going to be a ground up in a week project or anything, deffinatly going to be done over time. I was looking to buy a car with a good frame so we have a good platform to take off from like you all suggested.

-Big Block, havent decided chevy/ford yet, but i'm leaning more toward ford...
-deffinatly a streetable car... i dont have much of any intention on goin to the strip too much...
