Helping put the power to the pavement is a 6-speed manual gearbox. For the performance driver, its evenly spaced gears mean less "stirring" is needed to find the "sweet spot." This gives a rewarding experience throughout the engine's broad torque curve. The heavy-duty transmission has proven itself a willing companion to Mustangs in both road and track environments, including recent road-going Mustang Cobras and the new race-winning Mustang FR500C.

Sorry to sound stupid but does this mean they won't be offering a Automatic version of the 2007 GT500?
I'd hope so.. [sm=hiya.gif]

I'm planning on trading my V6 for a GT500 (whatever it takes to knock the price down) and go from there.

Any ideas as to how much it'd cost?

It only comes with the tremic 6 speed. I read an article today on the GT500 that put horsepower/torque both at 475 and said that the body was 95% of what the production car will be. It will sticker at around $40000 for the coupe and $4000 more for the vert. They are going to go for a lot more than sticker though..

The auction for an early VIN 2007 Shelby GT was done last Sunday at a Charity event. I don't have any idea what it went for.

There are a boat load of Mustangs here and also Mopar cars. It is absolutely amazing to watch this people buy cars like it was a Snickers candy bar. Money is no object to most of these people.

351PONY, true, except for the face. It has the same styling but it's a totally different mug

btw, anyone hoping to get into a GT500 for $40K is probably going to be dissapointed. Expect a dealer markup of at least $5,000

It is a great looking car, but I have to admit I expected them to do so much more with it. I mean Ford went so far to create the retro Mustang look and I really expected they'd do more to diffrentiate the Shelby from the standard GT. I mean there was so much they could have done to play up the vintage Shelby look. That's why I'm building mine the way I think Ford should have built theirs (i.e. retro '67 hood, hood pins, c-pillar scoops, emblems, etc).
+1 You and me both brother!
+2 here. the technology and power of 2006, and look of 1967 Shelby... Too cool!

#1- have you ever even seen a Cobra that was an automatic?? Your answer is no-

#2- The markup on this car is going to be a minimum of $10k- you wont get your hands on one out the door under $55k thats for certain

#3- Thats if your lucky enough to find allocation- each dealership is getting like 2 for the entire year, the higher traffic dealerships, maybe 3 or 4 TOPS!! They will trickle in, one every few months. Chances are, they will have deposits way in advance to this & have to refund most of the peoples money. Disappointment is going to be most peoples feeling if your planning on getting this car-

Let's put it this way, I was on the 'waiting list' for the GT-500 but got the bad news from an inside contact that the state of Colorado is slated to ony get 6 cars... This basically means that unless your number one on the waiting list at a very large volume dealership you aren't going to get one until 2008 (or later); That helped me decide to settle for the loaded 2006 GT. Now with regards to a dealer mark-up, here in Denver there is a large mark-up even on the GT's as they are selling so well dealerships are having trouble keeping up with demand;
