Default I finally figured out what the clciking noise in the engine is!

Its one of the pulleys that the belt is on. Its contantly starting and stopping and clicks when it does.

? Which pulley? Why is it constantly starting and stopping?

I'm curious, because before I put mine in storage for winter, it ran perfect, I've started it every 2 weeks since, and all of a sudden 4 days ago, it started clicking and clacking like the lifters are flat.

(Does the 4.6L even have lifters w/overhead cams?)

could it be your AC compressor going on and off, cause that clicks.

I'm Thinking that's what his "problem" is, anyone know anything about mine?

that's the only pulley that will go "off and on". A little clicking is not unusual but I would still bitch to Ford.

EDIT: oh yeah. No lifters.

Yeah I let it run to normal op temp (slightly below the middle of the temp gauge anyways), the clacking is pretty loud, it never made that much noise before this week, (it's got 6500 miles on it, so I assume it's broken in)

Mine does this also...

It is the AC compressor cycling on and off. Keeps the compressor from siezing. Here is a line from the 05 shop manual"To reduce fogging the A/C compressor will operate automatically, regardless of indicator status, if the outside temperatureis above approx. 2 deg/C or 35 F.

Thats the AC compressor. If you have your selector set on any form of AC or Defrost, then the comp. cycles on and off as mentioned before. No worry's
