Information Computer self-resetting
Here’s my problem: After filling up I always reset my avg. MPG, avg. MPH, Trip, & gallons used. My last two fill ups I have had the computer reset itself on one of the items. The first time it was the gallons used. Thought maybe I accidentally reset it. Yesterday I filled up, reset everything and left it alone to make sure I was thinking crazy and must have reset it. Well, I wasn’t. Drove to the car wash, had a little more than two miles on the trip. Turned off the car, washed it, started it back up and the mileage was reset to zero.

I have had something similar happen with my 2006 V6 Auto. After filling up and driving a few miles, shutting off the car, then turning it back on, the Trip reset. It only happened 1 time per fillup. THis has happened 2 or 3 times to me.
I think this has occured because I significantly topped off my tank. The gas needle went past full, and I think the Trip reset when the needle came back and touched the F mark. It seems to have stopped, because I have stopped topping off my tank, when it clicks I just stop and hang it up.
This is just a theory, and I have not heard anything else about this kind of issue. I just think it has something to do with topping off the tank too much and the ECU resets the Trip so that you have an accurate MPG calculation.
Just my 2c.

RE: Information Computer self-resetting
Interesting...I now have had the car three weeks and have filled it three times. the last two times the pump clicked off and gas came out the filler tube. I filled with the nose of the car pointed down, which I assume caused the overfill. So maybe your theary is correct. I will see what happens next time and be sure to fill on level ground. I just wonder why it would happen. What if I wanted to keep track of total mileage of a long trip in which I had to fill more than once. If the theary is true I couldn't let the trip contine where it left off after a fill up.
