Caddy and other GM products have been having this problem with their audio systems, and replacing the units with no pushback. I had a similar problem but with the interior door panel/handle of a grand cherokee a while back, and they replaced it with no pushback.

Ford should be doing the same.

It needs to be programmed to your car.

They did program it still no lights. I went back today and they fixed it...again...

Looks like an older, common, problem, but my son's 05 is doing it also. 19,000 miles and still under warranty. I have a call into the dealer. I'll let you know the outcome.
