Default Pre-Purchase Research

Is there any general post on here that goes over pros/cons of options on the 05/06 GTs? Or, is there anyone out there who is nice enough and knowledgable enough to go over some of the questions that I have about this purchase? I am a Jeep girl, but am shopping around for a Mustang to add to the fleet. I know I want a GT but am not sure whether to go with manual or auto. Am first and foremost interested in knowing if there have been any problems with either transmission. Any help would be appreciated. Feel free to e-mail at xjgrrl@yahoo.com Thanks!

(the picture is a rental that I had the privelege of driving in CA)

Both transmissions are holding up well. There are people running both with superchargers and Nitrous and still holding up. I would suggest driving both, or at least one with a manual to see how you like them - think about every day driving and when you are racing - if you will be. The stereos suck so I would not put any extra money in them. And red looks the best! Good luck

I do plan on driving them both. My Jeep is an auto which is ideal for fourwheeling in my eyes. I have not ever owned a manual vehicle, but have driven several. Although I am not very confident in my "shifting" skills, I am sure there is a short learning curve. This is probably going to be my last "impractical" vehicle purchase before it is car-seat friendly suburban time ....so I guess it wouldnt be so horrible to go manual even tho I view it as impractical.....

I dont PLAN on racing.....but who knows....I didnt plan on crushing rocks with my Jeep either.

Thanks.

Both transmissions are 5spd. If you get a tuner you can make it shift just as high and firm as a manual. The only difference between the GT manual/auto is the gearing in the diff. which can be changed easily.

Thanks. Good info. I am very green when it comes to cars. Ill go test drive them both and get back to y'all. If I feel confident in the manual, I will most definitely go that way......if I have a bad experience test driving, I might be afraid to commit to that. I have driven plenty of big trucks (ie Dodge 2500 6 speed) which are not a real good indicator of how well I can drive a car.

I think either way you go you will be happy. If this is your last "impractical" car go for the GT. I think the nicer features and performance is worth the couple of extra bucks. I got the manual trans because this isn't my daily driver so I'm not worried about commuting traffic.

You will find some small issues with these cars, but nothing to get too worked up about. As I have been telling my friends, I don't think you can get a better sports car for under $30K.

Enjoy!!

Well if you do want to add "impractical" to your list, I drove the bejeebers out of my Pony this past weekend at a driving event and she purred, growled, screamed and even whinied a few times but never ever gave me any signs of trouble and I doubt I would have had nearly as much fun with an auto.

Coming out of a twisting 4 turn series in 3rd and shifting into 4th on the straightaway was completly wild!!

Go for the 5-speed manual

What is the stock gearing in the 06 GT auto? I have orderd a CAI with SCT tuner from Brenspeed and I hope I am happy with the firmer shifts on the auto. Stock is sluggish.

HaHa.....I promise Ill give the manual a fair shot....anyone going to come out here and give me a tutorial so I don't look like a duphas at my testdrive? I do live in Northern Virginia and will be driving this thing to work everyday during the fairer seasons. (will probably reserve the Jeep for Winter) It would be an adjustment, but I am sure I would love actually "driving" my vehicle.......

Thanks.....I was prepared to be chewed out on this thread.....like what I usually get on the Jeep forums!!! Y'all are a lot nicer.

XJGirl,

If you ever drive NOVA or DC traffic during rush hour don't even consider a manual...do yourself a favor and get the auto and tune it. Trust me, 6 years of driving the DC Beltway with four manuals...you don't want to do it.
