Default grill painting

Hey Folks!

I've removed and painted the upper grill on my 2010 v6 premium, but unsure how to remove the lower grill. I would think it's the same, but I sensed I was about to force too much and felt more comfortable seeking advice from you guys and gals! Please help and thanks!

Thanks Man! I was hoping Disco Dave would logged on, because I've been following his ride and knew this would be fresh on his list.1

Can you remove just the lower grill? I though it was part of the lower fascia.

I'm going to say yes, but I wouldn't swear to it. I can get it started just as I did the upper grill, but not to the point where I hear the first compression clip pop. I'm not comfortable applying additional force, unless I'm sure the set up is the same.

The top grill turned out great by the way. All black with several clear coats. No more wax residue or flat gray. I'll take pics tomorrow in sunlight.

Yea I would love to see what it looks like. You painted it black to match or flat?

Low gloss duplicolor black with a regular duplicolor clear coat. It turned out with a medium gloss, but not to the point where your drawn to the grill when you see it. Just a much richer black.

Another pioneer I see! Well, I can tell you that the lower grille is almost impossible to get off, which is why I left it on there when I got it painted. It's just kind of hard to get to which makes it so tough. With the upper grille, it's fairly easy to get to so you can work the tabs in order to get the grille off. The lower grille was such a pain to work with I just left it on there. If you tape around it properly you should be able to paint it while it's on. Maybe if you could get your car up on a lift it might be easier to get to the tabs on the lower grille if you really want to try and get it off. Make sure you post pics!

What's up Dave! I knew you'd show up at some point! Well; the good news is I took a deep breath, pulled ever so gently and off she came! My heart skipped a beat, but nothing broke! I did find an unusual "sensor" type piece attached to the lower grill. No clue there. In any event, the black paint is on and I'm waiting to clear coat. Looks much better!

Sorry to ramble, but just pumped. When I post pics, I'll post a few of the suede A Pillars and headliner I removed; covered and re-installed last weekend. Turned out better than I could have imagined! Black suede is great looking against the saddle leather! Found the DIY here as a matter of fact!
