Default Can I sand...

Help! lol...

I was cutting out my pony to fit a billet grille (v6 you have to...sucked) with a jigsaw, didn't pay attention on one cut and dragged the blade on the housing right in the middle.

Any guys with body experience know if I can sand this out with really fine grit as long as I sand the whole piece and then use a protectorate to blacken it back up? Not sure if it will work and don't wanna make it worse than it is.

I'd say it's about a lost cause......I wouldn't risk messing the whole entire thing up over a careless mistake that the everyday joe blow won't recognize.

You could sand the whole thing down and then paint it satin....not sure if it will match the other black accents ...but if it bothers you that much then I would give it a try.

That would drive me insane. Is the damaged piece part of the grill? If not, have you priced it yet? If it's not that expensive to replace, I'd break out the sand paper and see what happens.

Yeah it's buggin me lol. The v6 grille is all one piece, including where I chewed it up. I could buy another full grille cheap enough, like $40.00 but then I still have to cut it again which isn't too bad but I don't think the hardware that came with the billet grille overlay is gonna survive being swapped. Cheap aluminum screws stripped right out as soon as I got em in tight and the clips on the back were a joke from the start.

My thought was as long as the grit is small enough and I sand the entire housing (that is visible) very lightly it should look a bit different but not as noticeable as the hack job thats on it now lol.

Just wondering if anyone has sanded the auto plastic before for any reason and if it came out ok.
