Anyone installing 2011 side mirror glass on 2010?

I bought the replacement glass and attached in a plastic bag was a small strip of metal approximately 1" long with a 90 degree bend on one end with a square hole in it and on the other end is a dimple and then a 45 degree bend. Anyone know the purpose of this? Thanks

there is a slot or tab the metal piece slides in to. it is there to help keep the glass from vibrating.
