After Market Black Grille Doesnt Fit...PAINTED STOCK ONE!!
The Tabs on the AMERICAN MUSCLE Grille dont line up with the housing on the CS billet grille (must be for fog light grille housing only).
Anyway, Took my time removed the stock one and painted it, prepping it carefully and applying several light coats.

I thought the only Ford grilles you could get were the Shiny chrome billet grille and then the dark chrome billet grille. I have the dark chrome billet on my 11, I like it way better than the pure chrome one. I have yet to see a pure black one from Ford.

The housing is 3 parts. The grille and it's backing are attached to the housing. THose are the 3 parts.
Grille/backing are attached to the housing with 8 or 9 one-way locking push tabs (metal washer looking things)
When the grille/backing separated from the housing, you then have to separte the grille FROM the backing..about 8 or so MORE tabs.
It took me over 30 minutes to remove all the tabs..they have to be cut off, and you have to be REALLY careful not to break the posts. I took me about 20 mins to prep the grille once separated, doing the following:
Scuff with rough (red) scotch pad.
Clean well
Apply 2-3 light coats Bulldog Adhesion Promoter (see photo).
Then 2 light, then 1 medium coat of paint (I used Krylon Satin Black).
Reassembled using new retainer tabs. (they cost about 8-10 cents each). Now we just have to see how it holds up.
Good Luck
AND You can only get Chrome grille with CS package. You can get a black shiny one "a la carte". The Roush grille should fit because the tabs to insert in the housing are adjustable (fixed on the Am. Muscle one). But that grille is $240, the paint job is a little cheaper.
