I will post pictures of the test fit. But I am paintingpart of the hood so after the test fit its coming back off. The carbon hood was $50 more so why not. I got it from ebay for 730 shipped.
Good looking hood, can't wait to see it on the vehicle1 I was wondering about the hood pins as well... They say it is required, but what do you gain? Just more security? This hood is supposed to lock down with the factory latch so...
Heavier than our OEM aluminum I suspect...
Unless it's real carbon fiber, in which case you're looking at $2000+ for one of those.
All of the VIS hoods are real carbon fiber. Most hoods that say they're real carbon fiber are made with real carbon fiber but sometimes manufactures overlay carbon fiber on top of a heavier fiberglass part. VIS CF hoods are not made with fiberglass though.
You might be talking about ones that are 100% carbon fiber including the skeleton underneath? The VIS ones are not 100% carbon fiber, they have a plastic composite skeleton.
They say that their average sized hood weighs 15-16 lbs. I think the Mustang hood is a little larger than average though. Another manufacturer, TruFiber (AKA TruCarbon) lists their 3" Cowl Mustang fiberglass hood as 40 lbs. They list their TruCarbon 3" Cowl Carbon Fiber hood as 30lbs.
Two totally different companies which is why I'm really interested to see how how much the VIS CF hood weighs. I know what you're getting at with the chance that the CF hood might weigh more than the stock aluminum one. A lot of the hoods I looked at for my STI weighed more than the stock aluminum one that came on it.
Probably test fit it and weigh it tomorrow. then all the banter can be settled. Sorry for the delay I just have a bunch of things going on with work so I havent done it yet.
