Who has done their own vinyl stripes?
#2
As far as my experience goes, I had a sign shop do my vinyl stripes. I ordered the material (3M vinyl) from them as well. I would highly advise this to anyone looking for this type of advice. I had seriously considered/researched doing my own install but after seeing the shop put them on, I am glad I didn't tackle it myself. I asked the installer about the quality of the stripe kits available online while he was working on my car and he didn't really have many good things to say about them (go figure.) I would invest in a quality product such as 3M. It's best to do it right the first time with a quality product that will last. Check out my other thread "Stripes On 2010 GT." Professional install with a long-lasting product. Hope this helped! Good luck.

I installed my own from graphic-express.com. They were easy to install. I did get some for the side and screwed it up. From my experience, a flas surface like the hood or trunk is doable, sides are more tricky. Here are the pictures of the stripe install http://s182.photobucket.com/albums/x...tang%20stripe/

I did my own pit marks, lol.
Actually was not as simple as seems (small stripes), as there are alot of curves on that fender there. 1st time doing vinyl - went pretty well.
Watch videos, insure you have the tools, heat gun or hairdryer is essential. use towel between squigee and vinyl so as to avoid pulls, stretches and rips - spray it with soapy water continually while installing. 'Float' it into position, soap that thing up - it will take longer to dry so what; rushing the application in the first place is where mistakes happen.

the product was iffy. a little thin and not a perfect fit as it hangs over the power bulge of the hood about 1/4 inch on both sides. all said and done it does look great.
however, install took about an hour but was easy because it was one piece. stripes, however, i would not do. it would be a nightmare lining those up.

I did them on my 06 and they came out better than the shop did. It took me a lot longer too with precut 3M stripes, but it really came out well. The trunk and rear fascia area was by far the hardest because of the curves but like someone said, take your time.
Id say the second most important thing (as close as taking your time) is make sure you have the absolute center of the car. Triple measure it.
