Faux Gas Cap Removal
Sorry I know this probably has been covered, but can someone tell me the best way to remove the "faux" gas cap on the decklid of a 2012 V6? Is it bolted/screwed on or just held on with D/S tape? Thanks!

I don't recall if there was a bolt or not. I think there was one, I recall removing the liner behind it just to check when I pulled mine off.
basically, you want to use a heat gun or a hair dryer to get it nice and warm, and then use floss or fishing line to get a good bit started, in a sawing motion back and fourth. I used a paint scraper and lined it with tape for added protection and pried up as I heated it up. popped it off in a manner of 30 seconds. I should have went a little slower but damn mine did not seem to be sealed on there very good!

just in case you didn't know, it's not simply flat metal under neath there. you will leave holes exposed, and the metal is actually formed outwards to coincide with the shape of that faux gas cap.. so if you're moving it, you need to have a plan in place for what you're doing. I had a CDC decklid panel ready to rock (thanks Jimmy)

@Paul VS,
Before you remove that Faux gas cap, make damn sure you really want it removed.
Last year, I removed mine to put the CDC Decklid panel on. It looked good, but I really started to miss the faux gas cap, and when I purchased some racing stripes, I wanted it back on so the racing stripes could run the full length of the rear end.
I removed the CDC decklid panel (total pain in the *** to do when you're trying not to break it) and was left with a **** ton of 3M tape and residue.
That crap is a nightmare to remove, and I spent the majority of this weekend patiently working it off my paint. It is a giant *** ache to do, and I know I scuffed my paint pretty good in the process.
So just make sure you really, really, really....really, really, really want to remove it. Haha, because it's a pain to remove those decklid panels and get the faux gas cap back on.

Thanks for all the info folks....
I am thinking of a decklid panel.... this one...
It's an OEM Ford part, but I have no mounting instructions for it.

The panel will self-align (left to right) in the holes left by the faux cap. All you will need to do is remove the blue tape exposing the 3M adhesive and press it on tightly. Be sure to clean the area where the adhesive will be with some lighter fluid or Goo Gone to remove any wax. I also wiped over mine with some alcohol before installation.
Before you remove the tape you can test fit it and get comfortable with the "feel" of putting the piece on. It may take a gentle pull to get it back off.
